Why are Americans killed in the war on terror labelled victims,but dead Iraqis/Afghans are collateral damage?

Because military journalists pick their words carefully and are edited that way to show the best possible light for the military. If they wrote, Afghan victims instead of collateral damage people might protest the war like they did in Vietnam. They are sneaky in their word choice.
