Scarlet Letter questions!?

There are changes in the characters, for example, as the novel progresses we see Dimmesdale becoming more and more withdrawn, physically he gets more hunched and he develops the tic (he constantly marks an imaginary A on his chest). He is always afraid that at some point Pearl will show physical resemblance to him. Hester becomes more isolated, repelling other people's company even when they approach her to thank her for the "good samaritan" she has become, and she isolates her daughter as well. She is a beautiful woman but she purposefully makes herself look unattractive by wearing drab clothes and hiding her hair. Chillingsworth becomes a bitter old man intent on revenge. Pearl grows up a beautiful girl, who makes impish remarks to her mother about her origins.
